Right in downtown Oshawa sits the now-named Tribute Communities Centre. As with most downtown rinks you will have to pay for parking, but I usually park just a block away for $5 in a huge garage. It’s a nice-looking building from the outside, with lots of glass letting in natural light to the main entrance.

Oshawa is not uncommon from many other new rinks in the OHL but that said it is a very good one. I find the concourse can be a tad tight, but it has good sight lines and a great atmosphere when the rink is full. My first real Battalion road trip (Mississauga wasn’t exactly a road trip) was to this rink in late 2007. The rink was still brand new, and the fire alarm was going off for most of the 1st period. Hard to believe it is now well over a decade old.

I just very recently got to eat in the rink’s restaurant for the first time and I really enjoyed my meal; the nachos were awesome. The one problem Oshawa has is it is strict as hell. The camera police are out in full force if you don’t have a media pass. Also, I asked an usher after the game to take a photo of my girlfriend and I and was told they weren’t allowed to do that, even with a phone. I had to ask one of the few remaining fans to do it for us.

Oshawa has tried to bid for the Memorial Cup a couple of times now without success. I feel the capacity is on the lower end for a Memorial Cup tournament, but I feel like the rink should get one someday. However, I will say I usually sit in the corners in Oshawa as side seats are a bit on the expensive side for the OHL, especially the club seats behind the penalty box, they are $38 on the day of game.
